I am proud of my age and my affiliation with AARP. From time to time they talk about things that are relevant to me. In the most recent issue of the magazine, I saw some cool recipes for things we typically toss into the trash: carrot tops, radish tops (although the stores are cutting them off in advance of putting them out now), and potato skins. There is also a great granola recipe. The most interesting thing, however, is an article about spending some money to modify your home after you get to the next stage of life.
The empty nest
Who among us has found this stage to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done? Although the article assumes you made it past the hurdle, you are left at the precipice of the next stage of life. The kids are gone, less distractions – now what? My folks unfortunately divorced at about that time, but remained friends. Thirty years under our belts now, I feel proud and see plenty of stuff to look forward to. Time for me to catch up on some deferred maintenance, too.
What to do next
In the event you make it past that seemingly insurmountable hurdle, and/or you are entering that stage with a new mate, you may want to look at how you use your home. The Property Brothers speak to several real-life situations, including revamping your kitchen, an office/craft area, and or creating a bonus/rumpus room that you both can enjoy together with the grandkids.
